1) What are the most common forms of algae found in a pool?
The most common forms of algae found in swimming pools would be Green Algae followed by Black Algae and Mustard Algae. These algae’s can then be separated into two categories.
THE PRIMARY REASON FOR ADDING CHLORINE TO POOL AND SPA WATER IS TO KILL BACTERIA AND SECONDLY TO OXIDISE ORGANIC CONTAMINANTS.
Chlorine is the most effective and economic way method of achieving these goals. While maintaining constant levels of chlorine in the water will guarantee the absence of bacteria in the pool or spa water there is one area that may still harbor masses of bacteria.
UNDERSTAND THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN TOTAL & CALCIUM HARDNESS
When balancing pool water calcium levels are an important factor. Without acceptable levels of calcium, water will try to balance itself by drawing calcium from the walls (in the case of concrete or plaster pools) and from grouting in tiled pools. Australian Standards recommend Calcium levels (ideal) of 100 – 300ppm.
